This fabulous screen worn Knights Chainmail outfit was worn in the movie 'THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD' (1938) which starred ERROL FLYNN and OLIVIA DE HAVILLAND. Information from a fellow eBayer and collector: "This actor was one of several towards the beginning when Errol Flynn starts his rebellion. There are several multiple short sequences, each with someone getting shot with an arrow. Back then, they didn't' have special effects and the arrows were actually shot at the actor who wore a steel plate covered with wood, under the surcoat. (they got paid extra for this) It might be an extra plus for bidders to know it's not just a costume but one featured with Robin Hood's accuracy." (Thank you John!) The pictures from the movie I am showing are in sequence - the first of the actor yelling - the second when he is hit! These are extremely rare and very collectable due to the movie and the age.
As a special note: This type of Movie Chainmail outfit was worn in just about every 'knight' movie from 1938 into the 1980's!!
This magnificent outfit consists of 5 pieces - the chainmail pants, the tunic, the headgear along with a pair of gloves made of chainmail, and the Surcoat. The Surcoat is done in a mustard yellow/gold woven wool or cotton. Both the chest and the back have a purply-blue wool Y from the shoulders down the front and back. The center chest and center back have a sword appliqued. The sword is done in a purple satin or silk and is outlined in black piping. The Surcoat fastens at the side seams with a tie at the waist. The chainmail tunic, which has darkened with age, fastens with ties as you can see in the pictures. The chainmail pants are actually a pair of pants with the legs cut off and the chainmail legs and shoes attached. The upper part of the pants have a button fly and also a drawstring added at the waist to vary the size.
NOTE: The chainmail you receive may vary in color (lightness/darkness) than the ones in the picture. The chainmail tunic and pants do have a few holes due to age and wear. It is very obvious from the pants and the shoes that this outfit is truly from the 1930's! The headgear is a slip over. The chain mail gloves, which are very worn, are made from a pair of knit gloves with the 'chainmail' attached to the top side and then painted. There is some wear to each piece of this outfit - please remember it is over 70 years old!

'THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD (1938) starred ERROL FLYNN, OLIVIA DE HAVILAND, BASIL RATHBONE, CLAUDE RAINS, MONTAGUE LOVE, MELVILLE COOPER, IAN HUNTER and many others. A brief synopsis from IMDb: Based on the well-known English legend, Robin of Locksley is a noble who is forced to become an outlaw when Prince John the usurper tries to take the throne from his absent brother. He flees to Sherwood forest where he gathers together his Merry Men and is called Robin Hood. He begins to rob the rich and give back to the poor, the townsfolk that are heavily-taxed by the Sheriff of Nottingham. Meanwhile he still has to defend the throne, and woo Maid Marian.
NOTE: Movie-worn chainmail was made up of heavy cotton twine that was knitted to look like real chainmail then painted silver.
This outfit is very heavy. We are showing several pictures of the items you are bidding on. It is being worn by a model that is about 5'10" and weighs approximately 155 lbs. The tunic is a LG/XLG; the pants are a 40" adjustable waist. This outfit is large enough that someone around 6'0"-6'2" and up to 220 lbs could wear it.
